In 2009, Trinona launched an ambitious "green" initiative that included unique partnerships with the Council for Responsible Sport, CarbonFund.org, UltraGreen and other local brands such as the J.R. Watkins Company & Fastenal, that are committed to being environmentally friendly.

Trinona also adopted responsible practices involving recycling, use of organic and recycled materials, and purchasing of carbon offsets.

The effort resulted in Trinona being awarded certification from ReSport, the leading oversight on environmentally and socially responsible practices in the world of sporting events. In 2009, Trinona became the only sporting event in Minnesota to be certified and one of only a handful of triathlons to achieve this distinction in the entire country.

In 2011, Trinona will expand its "green" initiative to include new partnerships with environmentally responsible businesses and additional sustainable practices. And, this year, every participant's travel wil be offset with carbon credits purchased through CarbonFund.org.
